Outreach is the heartbeat of the Church

Outreach is the heartbeat of the Church •

Here’s an update from our Outreach Director, Sal:

September Serve Saturday, weekly outreach’s and short term missions were an amazing success thanks to all of you who signed up and served. Together, we reached out across our island communities touching and impacting people's lives in tangible ways with the love of Jesus.

Looking forward, our Serve Saturday outreach projects will continue on the 1st Saturday of each month, as well as our weekly projects at the Onelau`ena Transitional Shelter. We have our big Halloween Outreach on October 31, where we’ll empower everyone who calls Manna Church home to share God’s love with their community, shining the light of Jesus brighter than ever!

In November, we will take outreach to the next level with SERVE MONTH. We will be providing everyone with weekly outreach opportunities demonstrating thanksgiving to God by serving others. Then, we’ll participate in the Kapolei Christmas Parade! We plan to bless our community with thousands of treats and invitations to meet Jesus, the “Reason for the Season!”

Please continue to pray for our 2024 FOR THE ONE Outreach Strategy. Let’s keep changing the world, Manna Church…ONE PERSON AT A TIME!

MannaKids

Here’s what’s coming up in MannaKids!

We love keeping you in the loop with all that your keiki are learning. Be sure to pick your MannaKids newsletter on Sunday from the MannaKids Family Connection Team when you check-in!

Here's something fun...

Here's something fun...

Let’s get to know our MannaKids VSK (Very Special Keiki) Coordinator:

What is your name and a fun fact about you?

Hi, I’m Cassia Simms! During COVID time I lived in North Carolina. My job was remote and my kids were going to school online. We took advantage and bought a homemade teardrop camper off of Craigslist and explored as much as we could! Work and school were done on park benches in many beautiful places and my coworkers would joke, “Where in the world is Cassia Simms today?”

What is your current role in MannaKids, and what previous MannaKids serve teams have you been on?

I am the Very Special Keiki (VSK) Coordinator. I have served in MannaKids

Preschool in the past as a Sunday serve team member and Coordinator.

What is your favorite part about serving in MannaKids?

I love knowing that keiki feel safe and secure with me, learning about Jesus and

having fun. I also love that this means their parents/caregivers can be fully present

worshiping and learning about God during service because they feel good about

leaving their keiki with us.

Why did you decide to pursue starting a VSK team?

Manna Church believes that God created each person on purpose for a purpose. We want every person, no matter what challenges they face to feel valued, loved by God, and included in all aspects of the Manna Sunday morning experience. With this in mind, I noticed that some keiki could use extra support while I was serving in preschool. Sometimes this was because they had a diagnosed special need and sometimes it was just because they were having a hard day. From my background of working with children with special needs, I know that families are sometimes hesitant to come to church because they are not sure if their keiki will be welcome. Manna is the LAST place where families should not feel welcome! I feel like God has given me a passion for this ministry and a vision for showing love to ALL of Godʻs children.

What are some adaptations that your team uses during service to help the keiki you’re serving?

So far we have made adaptations to our environment such as providing a space where keiki can go when they feel overwhelmed or need a place to calm (with an adult there to support).  We have noise-canceling headphones (keiki environments can be loud!) and bags filled with activities for keiki to do with their hands, such as dry-erase boards, sensory toys, magnetic blocks, and Legos. The bags also have a picture schedule available for VSK team members to use with keiki to help them know what is happening next. We have worked hard to make sure each VSK team member feels supported by providing a lanyard to wear that has suggestions for ways to support keiki for quick reference. We have also modified the curriculum so that our VSK team members can do activities similar to the large group either one-on-one or in a very small group.

Anything else you want to share?

Spread the word! Know of a family with a child who needs extra support? Let them know that they are welcome at Manna. Know of anyone who has a heart to serve on the VSK team? Send them my way. I love seeing what God has done with the VSK team so far and am so excited to see what he has in store for our future.

Small Group in the Spotlight

What do you love about your small group?

Christian says:

What I love about the group right now is that people are getting closer to each other and beginning to build a community where they don't mind spending time together outside of church! I've been learning how to help lead the discussion between adults that have grown up in different areas and be able to find things to relate to them. Also for them to be able to have a better discussion and share more with each other since everyone never really met each other before, so it takes some time.

During our first outreach event, we had FIVE new people join us for bowling! They got to have some fun and begin building a relationship with people that do go to Manna as well. Hoping that continues!
